VIENNA – When Titti Owman entered the field in the early 1980s, MRI safety was rarely discussed. In a video interview at ECR 2026, the research coordinator at Lund University Hospital and chair of the ISMRT Safety Committee reflects on how dramatically the conversation around MRI safety has evolved.
Over time, growing awareness and several high-profile incidents pushed MRI safety to the forefront of research, education, and professional training.
Today, Owman says safety awareness is far stronger, but national guidance remains an important foundation for consistent practice. Clear frameworks, she adds, help radiology teams maintain high standards and strengthen MRI safety education across Europe.
