Week in Review: AI misleading radiologists | SERAM 2026 coverage | New SPECT/CT tracer

Dear AuntMinnie Europe member,

An often-overlooked aspect of implementing AI in radiology is how the technology affects the judgment of radiologists. A recent reader study found that AI can lead to some issues with automation bias and anchoring-related bias. Read our full report here.

The 38th National Congress of the Spanish Society of Medical Radiology (SERAM) in Valencia ended on 23 May, and we’ve published several stories on key sessions. You can learn about challenges in procurement of CT scanners and read two articles on the benefits of AI-assisted triage -- one for deep neck infections and one for chest radiographs.

Meanwhile, at the annual meeting of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMI) this week in the U.S., researchers from the U.K. presented their results from a phase II trial of an investigational SPECT/CT radiotracer in interstitial lung disease. And a machine-learning algorithm shows potential for predicting radiation dose prior to radiopharmaceutical therapy.

Also, a group from the Netherlands believes that AI models could offer a potential role as adjunctive tools for ruling out malignancy. Find out why in our coverage of their research.

Please see below for our other top stories from the week.
