Analogic completes Ultrasonix purchase

Medical imaging firm Analogic has completed its acquisition of ultrasound vendor Ultrasonix Medical and is demonstrating the company's products at this week's European Association of Urology (EAU) congress in Milan.

In January, Analogic announced that it was bidding $83 million in cash for Ultrasonix. The Canadian firm has a global installed base of 5,000 scanners, and the deal is expected to help Analogic extend its direct ultrasound business into the point-of-care market. The acquisition was completed this month.

Analogic is highlighting the SonixTouch and SonixTablet scanners from Ultrasonix, along with transducers from another subsidiary, Sound Technology, at the EAU meeting. In addition, Analogic is promoting systems from its BK Medical unit, including the Flex Focus 800, Flex Focus 500, and Ultraview 800 ultrasound systems. All of the products include BK's Quantum technology, which offers image quality enhancements including improved contrast resolution, as well as grayscale maps and image presets.
