SERAM highlights MRI’s key role in bladder cancer

Spain has among the highest cases of bladder cancer in the world, and MRI is key in diagnosing and managing the disease, the Spanish Society of Medical Radiology (SERAM) has noted in a blog post.

The society highlighted a recent article discussing the role of MRI in bladder cancer written by specialist Dr. Andoni López-Maseda and published in the journal Radiología.

MRI in bladder cancer is gaining significant scientific support and is endorsed by many European scientific societies, such as the Uroradiology Society, López-Maseda noted.

“Radiology plays a very important role in this pathology, not only in diagnosis but also in staging, since bladder MRI is poised to mark a before and after in the management of bladder cancer, improving diagnostic accuracy, optimizing therapeutic decision-making, and reducing invasive procedures,” he wrote.

Ultimately, the future points toward a more individualized approach, with MRI as the protagonist in the fight against this disease, López-Maseda added.
