The Spanish Society of Medical Radiology (SERAM) has voiced its support for a proposal to create a new university undergraduate degree in radiology, the Degree in Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy.
In a statement issued on 30 July, the SERAM said having such a degree will address training gaps since the Spanish higher education system does not have a specific medical imaging degree in place.
The SERAM asks that relevant academic, health, and educational authorities promote the evaluation, design, and development of the degree. The society is also lending its expertise to institutions for collaboration on the technical and academic work needed for creating the degree.
The SERAM said it is "essential to move toward a university model that integrates technological advances, clinical competencies, patient safety, and interdisciplinary work."
