Accuray reaches CyberKnife milestone in Germany

Radiation oncology firm Accuray has revealed its CyberKnife M6 radiotherapy system has been used by the European CyberKnife Center Munich-Grosshadern (ECZM) to treat the first patient in the world with this device.

The CyberKnife M6 system is the company's newest generation of the stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) modality. It incorporates a streamlined user interface for treatment delivery and clinical capabilities including nonisocentric, noncoplanar robotic beam delivery, and real-time tracking with automatic correction.

ECZM was the first cancer treatment center in Germany to offer radiosurgery using a CyberKnife system. Since 2005, it has treated more than 3,500 patients with a CyberKnife system. Almost three-fourths of the treatments were for intra- and extracranial brain tumors.
