Chinese technology group Midea has closed its purchase of a controlling stake in Italian medical device vendor Esaote. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Esaote will become part of Midea Healthcare, the group’s healthcare division. It will keep operating as an independent company headquartered in Genoa, Italy, with R&D and manufacturing in Italy and the Netherlands, and Franco Fontana staying on as chief executive officer.
The deal adds Esaote’s ultrasound, open and dedicated MRI, and medical IT products to Midea Healthcare’s lineup of digital radiography, high-field MRI, CT, and digital subtraction angiography systems, according to the companies. Esaote said Midea plans to invest in its R&D, operations, and manufacturing.
