Elekta claims procedure growth in Scandinavia

Radiation oncology firm Elekta has stated that image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) treatments have increased by 20% in the past eight months at Finland's Helsinki University Central Hospital, the time when an Axesse stereotactic system was installed.

The hospital's cancer treatment center has increased its caseload to as many as 30 patients a day who receive treatment from the system for cancer tumors in the lung, brain, head, neck, and pelvis, according to the Stockholm-headquartered company.

In addition to 3D image-guided localization at the time of treatment, Axesse provides beam shaping, a patient positioning system featuring 6° of remote positional correction, noninvasive patient immobilization, and advanced treatment planning.
