Philips, UMCG launch EU-funded cardiovascular disease project

Philips and University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) are leading Exit-CVD, a five-year research project co-funded by the European Union’s Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) that will examine strategies for detecting, monitoring, and treating cardiovascular disease at early, mid, and late stages.

The consortium will conduct 22 clinical studies involving more than 14,000 patients across Europe, with enrollment for the first study beginning this month. Imaging-related studies include the following:

  • Leader-Pad: Development and validation of approaches using spectral CT for early detection of cardiovascular disease in asymptomatic and low-risk symptomatic patients
  • Guidance-PCCT: A randomized trial comparing outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention guided by photon-counting CT with angiography-guided procedures
  • Notify-2: Validation of AI-based image and electrocardiogram analysis algorithms for early diagnosis of left ventricular hypertrophy

The public-private partnership includes 42 organizations from 17 countries, among them GE HealthCare, Siemens Healthineers, Medtronic, and the European Society of Cardiology.
