Lung image analysis firm Thirona has secured the CE mark for LungQ MP, its fully automated mucus plug analysis software included in LungQ version 5.
The software is certified as a class IIb medical device. LungQ MP quantifies airway-occluding mucus plugs on chest CT, reporting plug count and volume per lung, lobe, and bronchopulmonary segment, along with a mucus plug score reflecting the number of segments containing at least one plug. The software has been evaluated in studies involving more than 14,000 participants with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, and asthma.
Thirona is now rolling out LungQ MP across Europe, starting with selected hospitals in Spain, the Netherlands, and France. The firm is also developing software to track individual mucus plugs across successive CT scans to assess treatment response.
