European groups promote CT dose reduction

HERCA, the association of the Heads of European Radiological Protection Competent Authorities, and the European Coordination Committee of the Radiological, Electromedical, and Healthcare IT Industry (COCIR), announced they are working together to address concerns related to radiation exposure from CT scans.

COCIR members who are CT manufacturers have developed voluntary commitments contributing to the reduction of CT dose. These companies have introduced new products and system innovations that have the potential to reduce radiation doses from some procedures by up to 75%, and are continuing their research to further reduce radiation dose.

More than 60 million CT scans are performed in Europe each year.
