United Imaging has installed a mobile digital PET/CT unit at the Azienda Unità Sanitaria Locale Piacenza in Italy. It is the company's scanner of this type in Europe.

This installation is the result of a successful collaboration between United Imaging Healthcare, Fora Spa, and AUSLP Hospital, the mobile diagnostic services company in Italy, according to United.

The mobile unit is equipped with the company’s uMI 550 digital PET/CT system, which enables whole-body scanning within six minutes with four to five bed positions, according to the vendor. The uMI550 is also equipped with a head-motion correction algorithm, which can help overcome the need for repeat scans.

The mobile unit is located in front of the hospital, with exams managed by the hospital's nuclear medicine team, the company added. Since the installation, 50 patients have undergone scans, with the number of procedures estimated at 1,800 services per year once the mobile unit becomes fully operational.
