In a tribute, ESR noted Rossi as "pioneering" and a highly respected figure in the international radiological community.

"Throughout his distinguished career, Professor Rossi dedicated himself to advancing radiology through education, research, and innovation, shaping the development of interventional practice and inspiring generations of radiologists," ESR said.

Among his credits, Rossi founded the European Society of Vascular Radiology, which later became the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE). He was also awarded the ECR Gold Medal in 1999.

The European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR) regarded Rossi as one of its founding fathers. There, Rossi also served as president from 1994 to 1997.

"His example will continue to light the way for future generations," ESGAR said in a tribute.

According to the International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy (ISET), Rossi was "a master technician and a great teacher." He was a past winner of the ISET's Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Nicoletta Gandolfo, president of the Italian Society of Medical and Interventional Radiology (SIRM), referred to him as "the recognized father of interventional radiology in our country."

"Professor Rossi dedicated his life to education, research, and development of our discipline, making a decisive contribution to the birth and growth of the Italian interventional school. With scientific rigor, vision, and passion, he trained generations of radiologists and left an indelible mark on our community," she wrote in a tribute.
