CryoTherapeutics treats first patient in ICECAP coronary plaque trial

Belgium-based company CryoTherapeutics is highlighting the treatment of the first patient in its Influence of Cooling duration on Efficacy in Cardiac Arrest Patients (ICECAP) clinical trial.

The trial is evaluating localized cryotherapy for stabilizing high-risk non-obstructive coronary plaques before they cause myocardial infarction. This includes assessing the efficacy and safety of localized cryotherapy applied to non-obstructive, high-risk coronary plaques identified through a multimodal imaging strategy combining coronary CT imaging with AI-enabled plaque characterization, intravascular near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), and optical coherence tomography. The study will also assess changes in fibroatheroma cap thickness over time.

Clinical and technology collaborators include the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF), HeartFlow, and Medis Medical Imaging, contributing expertise in intravascular imaging, coronary CT analysis, and AI-assisted plaque assessment, according to CryoTherapeutics. Patient recruitment is active and will expand to up to five centers across Belgium and the U.K. in the coming months.
