The French Society of Radiology (SFR) has posted a tribute to Dr. André Gaston, the pioneering interventional neuroradiologist who forged national and international connections and collaborations and also trained many students.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Professor André Gaston on August 12, 2025," the SFR said in a post. "A prominent figure in our discipline, he left a profound mark with his commitment, his teaching, and his humanity. Here you will find a tribute written by his students, colleagues, and friends, testifying to the lasting imprint he leaves on our memories and on our community.”

Gaston began his medical studies in Créteil and experienced a very rapid professional rise. During his internship, he was introduced to the emerging field of therapeutic neuroimaging at Lariboisière, along with Drs. Jean-Jacques Merland and Marie-Claire Riché.

Gaston was always attentive to the latest developments in interventional neuroradiology and demonstrated all the qualities -- thoughtfulness, imagination, skill, perseverance, and availability -- that made him a leading interventional neuroradiologist, the authors wrote.

“Through this tribute, we express our deepest gratitude to Professor André Gaston and extend our deepest sympathy to his loved ones,” the authors wrote.
