The British Institute of Radiology (BIR) has published the second edition of IR(ME)R: Implications for clinical practice in diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology and diagnostic nuclear medicine.
The new edition reflects the 2024 amendments to the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017. The guidance is intended for all staff involved in diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology, and diagnostic nuclear medicine services. It covers referrer, practitioner, operator, and employer responsibilities. It includes practical scenarios to support local interpretation and implementation.
The second edition was produced by a working party with representatives from the Royal College of Radiologists, BIR, Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, Medical Exposures Group, UK Health Security Agency, and the Society and College of Radiographers.
