“The new generation for us is not about age,” said Dr. Katharina Wenger-Alakmeh, one of neuroRAD’s congress presidents. “It’s more about the way we work together and the way we want to network together.” neuroRAD is the annual congress of the German Society of Neuroradiology (DGNR).
For the first time, the neuroRAD congress presidency represents a younger generation of neuroradiology, reflected in this year’s motto, “Next Generation – The Future is Now.” Wenger-Alakmeh said this perspective has made the meeting “less hierarchical and more practical,” including pairing younger chairs with experienced mentors and creating more opportunities to connect across professions and career stages.
Congress attendees can expect some surprises as well, she teased in the video preview. Scientific highlights include expanding neurovascular indications, photon-counting CT, quantitative and metabolic MRI, and a more mature phase of AI research that asks not only whether algorithms can work, but “where does it still fail and how can we improve it there?”
More broadly, Wenger-Alakmeh sees neuroradiology moving “from describing images to measuring biology and delivering therapy,” with teams increasingly combining intervention, advanced imaging, and AI across the patient pathway. “The future is not ten years away. It’s already in the room,” she said.
