GenesisCare opens rapid lung cancer diagnostic center in Leeds

Private cancer care provider GenesisCare is launching a lung cancer center in Leeds, U.K., which will have imaging services.

The center's goal is to confirm whether a patient is likely to have cancer within seven days, compared with the U.K. government’s 28-day referral-to-diagnosis target.

The center’s Lung Cancer Rapid Response Pathway combines specialist assessment, advanced imaging, rapid diagnostics and reporting, and treatment planning, supported by a digital pathway management system that gives clinicians a real-time view of each patient’s progress, GenesisCare said. The service also includes a daily virtual multidisciplinary team review, involving specialists in respiratory medicine, radiology, surgery, and medical and clinical oncology, so results can be reviewed as they become available rather than at a fixed weekly meeting, according to the company.

Treatment options include stereotactic ablative radiotherapy delivered with MRI guidance on an MR-linac or with cone-beam CT guidance on a standard linear accelerator, as well as rapid referral to thoracic surgeons, GenesisCare said. The center will also offer a dedicated advice service for general practitioners.
