IBA brings proton therapy system to Georgia

Proton therapy developer Ion Beam Applications (IBA) has received a contract from Georgian charity organization International Charity Foundation Cartu for a Proteus One system.

The order, valued at more than 35 million euros, includes a clinical Proteus One system and an additional cyclotron that will be dedicated to scientific research, according to the company. The system will be installed at the campus of the Kutaisi International University in Kutaisi, with the first patient treatments expected to begin in 2024.

The deal also includes a long-term operation and maintenance agreement, IBA said.
