Week in Review: Breast density affects AI performance | AI in pediatric imaging | Heart disease risk

A large study that retrospectively analyzed over 200,000 screening mammography exams found that AI software performs well for detecting breast cancer. However, there was a drop-off as breast density increased, according to our most highly viewed story this week.

In other news, a group has emphasized that radiologists should not assume that radiology AI software developed for adults will work safely in children.

Routine CT scans for planning radiotherapy for breast cancer can have another benefit. They can also help to screen for risk of heart disease, according to recent research.

Another study concluded that gallium-68 FAPI-PET/CT imaging outperformed standard F-18 FDG-PET/CT for detecting hepatopancreatobiliary cancers. Also, a recent review made the case for standardizing approaches to optimizing technical parameters in general radiography.
