Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

A major industry story broke on Tuesday. Women’s imaging vendor Hologic will go private in an $18.3 billion (€15.8 billion) buyout led by two private equity firms. It is by far the biggest acquisition in medical imaging in 2025.

To shed light on the development, we caught up with a pair of top market analysts at U.K.-based Signify Research. They have some fascinating observations. Don’t miss our news report.

The recently established EANM Journal aims to become the leading global publication for nuclear medicine and allied sciences. It has just published an important article on early perfusion imaging used as part of a dual-phase protocol in amyloid-PET studies. The technique can help monitor neurodegeneration.

Another active area of research in molecular imaging is the clinical applications of PET/MRI in breast cancer, and two new studies in this area grabbed our attention. The first is about evaluating patients treated with neoadjuvant chemo(targeted) therapy, while the second focuses on PET/MRI as a technique for preoperative axillary staging in early breast cancer patients.

Meanwhile, positron emission mammography, a high-resolution tomographic method for molecular imaging of positron-emitting isotopes, is proving a useful technique in the presurgical assessment of invasive lobular carcinoma.

The interface between radiology and surgery is the theme of a new series by the ever-popular columnist Dr. Paul McCoubrie. His latest article bemoans the inability of people to make decisions.
