The inspirational radiologist from Madrid, Dr. Cesar Pedrosa, celebrated his 90th birthday with 20 family members on 25 February, but he still managed to find the time and energy to squeeze in three educational talks for trainees.

"Last Wednesday I gave a new lecture for our residents, under the title of 'Fat in the chest.' I have been invited to deliver it online on Monday to the residents in another hospital," he told on his birthday.

"To top the anniversary, for the coming Wednesday I have prepared a new lecture called 'Deconstructing the silhouette sign.' This is based on my experience of 63 years on the road," added Pedrosa, who is professor emeritus of radiology at San Carlos Hospital, part of Complutense University.

Last month's profile article about his career generated huge interest. The tweet posted about him on 28 January has so far had 116 likes and 29 retweets.

Pedrosa still likes to adhere to his tried-and-tested philosophy of "SSD" -- shave, shower, dress, then get out and do something.

He remains dedicated to radiology training, as shown by the text on the homepage of his website:

"Since 2002, the date of my 'retirement,' we have followed a teaching program focused on the chest at the San Carlos Clinical Hospital. There have been more than 70 formal talks, plus countless teaching images. We have thought that perhaps others may be interested in this material," he wrote.

And what's his key advice to radiology trainees? "Medicine requires a lot of common sense (in Spain, we say, the least common of the senses). Use it."
