A radiologist in India has lost approximately 20,000 rupees (254 euros) after an unidentified caller purchased a smartphone online using her e-wallet, according to a 28 January report in the Hindustan Times.

Dr. Geetu Agarwal reported the scam to the police in October 2019, stating that someone used her e-wallet account after obtaining her password through her receptionist. Agarwal reportedly was tending to patients when the thief phoned the office, claiming to be a patient who wanted to transfer money into her e-wallet account to pay for tests. Unfortunately, Agarwal told the receptionist to give the caller the details.

The caller was given the doctor's six-digit code and took 19,998 rupees from the e-wallet account.

The perpetrator is still at large, according to the report.
