Dementia imaging is on the cusp of a revolution, according to a new pan-European article published online by Lancet Neurology. MRI can now show vascular changes, atrophy, and shrinkage. Meanwhile, Dutch researchers have developed and tested a clinical decision rule that can help physicians to decide whether an x-ray is really needed. Their large study included 787 children who received x-rays for wrist trauma between April 2011 and April 2014, and the results are impressive. A group from Lübeck, Germany, has unveiled details about its study into left ventricular (LV) thrombus formation following ST-elevation myocardial infarction. These findings are important because the presence of LV thrombi is associated with decreased myocardial salvage, larger infarcts, and more pronounced reperfusion injury. Radiographers in the U.K. have found themselves caught up in a turf battle. Mindful of the growing shortage of obstetric sonographers, the Society and College of Radiographers said it nevertheless opposes any effort to incorporate assistant practitioners into the field for assessing fetal growth and weight.
