MedaPhor to aid Rwanda, Dominican Republic

U.K. ultrasound training developer MedaPhor is working to boost ultrasound skills education in Rwanda and the Dominican Republic.

MedaPhor's laptop-based ScanTrainer simulator will play a key role in programs run by the Physicians Ultrasound in Rwanda Education initiative (PURE) and Global Women's Health, an initiative of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. They are working in economically challenged regions to educate medical professionals in ultrasound image interpretation.

The work is intended to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality, as well as diagnose diseases at an early stage, MedaPhor said.

PURE will use the ScanTrainer at Rwandan teaching hospitals in Kigali to improve education and diagnostic capabilities. Mount Sinai's Global Women's Heath will use the simulator to improve the provision of essential services to women in need.
