Hitachi Aloka Medical launched its new Arietta line of ultrasound scanners at this week's ECR 2014 in Vienna.

Consisting of Arietta 70 and Arietta 60, the new systems combine technology found in Hitachi's Hi Vision line of systems with Aloka's ProSound scanners. Hitachi bought Aloka in 2010.

The scanners feature Hitachi's multilayer crystal technology and an improved connector, as well as probes with high sensitivity and enhanced signal-to-noise ratios, according to the company. The vendor also said that users can enjoy better control of the ultrasound beam, enabling higher spatial resolution.

Both systems sport ultrasound-specific digital signal processors, as well as an IPS-Pro monitor with wide-angle viewing.

Clinical applications possible with the systems include Hitachi's Real-time Virtual Sonography technique for side-by-side display of ultrasound with results from other imaging modalities (for Arietta 70), optional Real-time Tissue Elastography for visualizing tissue strain in real-time, and 2D tissue tracking for quantitatively evaluating movement and thickening of the cardiac muscle.

Arietta 70 and Arietta 60 are also 45% lighter than previous Hitachi scanners, feature 10.5-inch touchscreen panels, 21-inch IPS-Pro monitors, two-way multirotary encoders to enable the adjustment of multiple functions with one control, and other features.
