French medical device company Cathpax is rolling out its Nova-X full-body radiation protection system commercially across Europe and the Middle East (EMEA), signing distribution agreements in Poland and the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland).
The system is designed to replace conventional personal protective equipment -- including lead aprons -- in interventional neuroradiology settings, according to the company. It encloses the entire cath lab team rather than relying on individual worn protection.
Results from the Novarad multicentric prospective study, presented in January at the ABC Win seminar on interventional neuroradiology, found that main operators using Nova-X received an average dose of 1.0 µSv per procedure, compared with 11.1 µSv with conventional equipment, Cathpax said. Doses were on average 11 times lower for the head and arms, and 38 times lower for the feet.
Installations to date include Bonn University Hospital in Germany and Santo Antonio de Porto Hospital in Portugal. Cathpax plans to have 50 systems installed across the EMEA region by the end of 2027.
