Prof. Emanuele Neri from Pisa, Italy, has won the election to become the ESR's next second vice president. This means he will be ESR president from 2028 to 2029, ECR 2029 president, and chair of the ESR Board from 2029 to 2030.
Neri received 2,758 votes, compared to 1,959 received by fellow candidate Prof. Maija Radzina from Riga, Latvia. His tenure of office will begin after both Prof. Mathias Prokop, PhD, and Prof. Marie-Pierre Revel, PhD, complete their spells as ESR/ECR president.
The ESR also reported results for the following positions and winning candidates:
- ESR Communications and Interdisciplinary Affairs Committee Chair - Prof. Marco Francone, Rome, Italy
- ESR Finance and Internal Affairs Committee Chair - Dr. Daniel Pinto dos Santos, Mainz, Germany
- ESR Quality, Safety, and Standards Committee Chair - Prof. Isabelle Thomassin-Naggara, Paris, France
- ESR Subspecialties and Allied Sciences Committee Chair - Dr. Jacob Visser, Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The ESR reported that a total of 5,146 ballots were cast during this year's election out of 37,639 eligible voters. This represents a participation rate of 13.7%.
