SonoSite's Edge scanner gets CE Mark

Compact-ultrasound developer SonoSite announced that it has received the CE Mark for its new Edge point-of-care ultrasound scanner, which is now available for immediate shipment in the European Union.

Edge will be sold with a complement of 13 transducers to support a wide range of examinations and procedures, including thoracic assessment for pathology, vascular access, and needle aspirations and injections, as well as abdominal, cardiac, nerve, ob/gyn, musculoskeletal, small parts, and vascular scanning. Its transducers are compatible with SonoSite's M-Turbo and S Series systems, according to the company.

The new product is engineered with new proprietary imaging algorithms that reduce speckle noise for the purpose of improving detail and contrast resolution. Weighing less than 4.5 kg, it has a high-luminance LED, high-resolution 12-inch display, and a sealed, easy-to-clean silicone keypad.

Edge received U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance in November.
