EANM publishes SPECT/CT guide for extremities

Looking to learn more about SPECT/CT for lower limb bone and joint disorders? The European Association of Nuclear Medicine's (EANM) bone and joint committee have written a state-of-the-art review in the 28 April edition in the European Journal of Hybrid Imaging (EJHI).

Researchers from seven countries, led by Dr. Hosahalli Mohan from the department of nuclear medicine at the Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Bengaluru, India, have summarized the clinical background, technical considerations, and potential applications for the hybrid modality with a multitude of patient management and illustrated case examples.

The use of SPECT/CT has advanced the diagnostic potential of bone scintigraphy in this setting, creating a way to effectively diagnose patients' symptoms in the hip, knee, ankle, and foot, which could cause pain and other physical disorders.

"Bone SPECT/CT has shown promise to be a valuable problem-solving tool in patients with persistent limping when careful history taking, clinical examination, and first-line imaging modalities fail to identify the underlying cause," the authors wrote.

The information is now available free of charge as an open-access paper on the EJHI website.
