
Le professeur Denis Le Bihan a reçu la prestigieuse médaille Antoine Béclère le jour de l'ouverture des Journées Francophones de Radiologie (JFR 2022). Dans cette interview vidéo exclusive réalisée sur place, il s'est entretenu avec la correspondante Mélisande Rouger sur le potentiel clinique de l'IRM de diffusion, les efforts de son équipe pour développer un scanner IRM dédié au dépistage du cancer du sein, et les progrès réalisés sur la machine prototype de 11,7 teslas.
"Ce prix représente beaucoup," a-t-il déclaré. "Antoine Béclère a créé la Société parisienne de radiologie, qui est devenue la SFR, en 1909. C'est le père de la radiologie française."
Le prix est une reconnaissance de 40 années consacrées à l'avancement de l'IRM de diffusion, qui a permis le développement d'un traitement pour les accidents vasculaires cérébraux aigus, a noté Le Bihan.
"Nous pouvons sauver la vie des patients victimes d'un AVC, et cela a commencé avec l'IRM de diffusion." Il ajoute que l'IRM a une bien meilleure sensibilité que la mammographie, mais qu'elle n'est pas aussi largement disponible et est en proie à des problèmes de produits de contraste à base de gadolinium.
"Mon rêve est de fabriquer un système d'IRM dédié au sein, très petit et bon marché, qui pourrait être utilisé pour le dépistage (...). Il pourrait remplacer la mammographie."
