Neurophet, Spain's VHIR to collaborate on multiple sclerosis MRI AI

Neurophet is entering a joint research collaboration with the Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca (VHIR), the research institute of Vall d'Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, Spain.

Under the collaboration, the VHIR will provide deidentified brain MRI datasets from more than 1,000 clinically diagnosed multiple sclerosis patients with expert-annotated lesion labels. The research will focus on developing detection algorithms for the central vein sign (CVS) and paramagnetic rim lesions (PRL), key imaging biomarkers in the 2024 Revised McDonald Criteria for multiple sclerosis diagnosis, according to Neurophet.

The partnership will support development of Neurophet Aqua MS, a brain MRI analysis software module that received 510(k) clearance in October 2024 from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The VHIR played a leading role in establishing the 2024 Revised McDonald Criteria.
