
GE HealthCare (GEHC) has secured the CE Mark for Photonova Spectra, a photon-counting CT system built on the company's proprietary Deep Silicon detector technology.
Photonova Spectra features a 0.23-second rotation speed and 80 mm detector coverage for fast acquisition, along with on-demand spectral and spatial imaging and a one-protocol setup designed to reduce exam-specific protocols, according to the company. Using NVIDIA's accelerated computing platform and CUDA-optimized reconstruction, the system can handle up to 50 times more data than conventional CT, GEHC said. Deep Silicon's semiconductor properties enable precise photon energy measurement to support spectral imaging, the company said. Clinical applications include neurology, oncology, musculoskeletal imaging, thoracic imaging, and cardiology.
The regulatory milestone follows U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance in March, and opens commercial activities in Europe and other CE Mark-observing markets, the company noted.
