The European Society of Radiology (ESR) has highlighted results published by the European Commission (EC) of its QuADRANT project, a clinical audit of radiological procedures.

The audit scheme was launched in January 2020 and successfully concluded in July 2022, with results now published by the EC as part of its Radiation Protection Series, the ESR said.

The publication provides an overview of European clinical audit implementation, identifies good practices and resources, provides guidance and recommendations to improve clinical audit uptake, and identifies potential for European action on quality and safety in the three project disciplines: radiology, radiotherapy, and nuclear medicine.

"QuADRANT has identified key challenges and barriers to clinical audit within existing healthcare systems, but has also highlighted many areas of good practice," said Prof. David Howlett, QuADRANT project leader, in a news release.

The project was led by the ESR, together with the European Association of Nuclear Medicine and the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology as consortium partners.

A dedicated session on the QuADRANT project has been planned for the ECR 2023, the ESR said.
