When ECR 2021 kicks off on Wednesday morning, a new aspect will be Channel N° 1. Broadcasting live from a dedicated studio, this channel will feature interviews with luminaries, daily introductions from congress president Prof. Dr. Michael Fuchsjäger, and morning and afternoon classes in yoga, mindfulness, qigong, and aikido.

"Following a difficult year for professionals across the world, the In Focus programme for ECR 2021 will focus on our own physical and mental wellbeing," the organizers explain in a statement. "Issues related to resilience, mindfulness, and coping with stress will be explored in a multi-session series featuring educational lectures and interactive workshops aimed at anyone wishing to improve their own wellbeing or the wellbeing of others in their organisation."

Five live parallel streams are being run, and the congress will offer a mixture of live, prerecorded, and interactive sessions covering a wide variety of topics and subspecialties, they continue. Each day's program will be complemented with a variety of special early-bird and night-owl sessions.

The scientific program will consist of advanced courses on neuroradiology, cardiothoracic imaging, and artificial intelligence. There will be basic courses on understanding MRI technique, breast imaging, and safety, as well as a session on the Lancet Oncology Commission. Additional sessions will look at venous thromboembolic disease, rectal cancer treatment, lung cancer screening implementation in Europe, and postmortem imaging.

The European Society of Radiology (ESR) will bestow honorary membership on Prof. James P. Borgstede from Colorado Springs, U.S.; Prof. Pek-Lan Khong from Hong Kong; and Dr. Sanjiv Sam Gambhir, PhD, (in memoriam), Stanford, U.S.

The gold medalists for the congress are Prof. Fiona Gilbert from Cambridge, U.K.; Prof. Francesco Sardanelli from San Donato Milanese, Italy; and Prof. Paul Parizel, PhD, from Perth, Australia. The plenary lectures are being given by Dr. Josef Penninger, Vancouver, Canada; Dr. Thomas Bubendorfer in Monte Carlo; Dr. Hedvig Hricak, PhD, in New York; and Kieran Murphy, president and CEO of GE Healthcare.

This year's congress painting is "the Kiss," painted by the Austrian Symbolist artist Gustav Klimt at some point between 1907 and 1909, during the height of what experts call his "Golden Period." The Kiss is regarded as the archetype of tenderness and passion. This shimmering, colorful, love scene of two faces and bodies embracing each other is conserved at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna.

ECR 2021 will also expand its opportunities for industry partners. Alongside a fully integrated industry program featuring industry symposia and workshops, companies will have the opportunity to interact with attendees via new and innovative networking solutions, the organizers stated.

ECR 2021 will run until 7 March. Further details are available on the ESR website.
