The RSNA is expecting about 19,000 in-person attendees at the upcoming RSNA 2021 meeting in Chicago. The number is down significantly compared with 2019, when the conference was last held in person.

The RSNA said that in addition to the 19,000 in-person attendees, 4,000 more people are registered to attend virtually. By comparison, at the 2019 edition of the show had an attendance of 51,800.

Despite the dramatic decrease in attendees, the society said it was pleased by the advance registration numbers in light of two years of dealing with the global COVID-19 pandemic.

"After two challenging years, our attendees were ready to return to Chicago for the world's leading imaging forum and to engage with the state-of-the-art technical exhibition," said RSNA President Dr. Mary Mahoney in a statement released by the organization.

Those onsite in Chicago will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination and to wear face masks, the RSNA said.
