IBA chosen for Belgium proton therapy center

Ion Beam Applications (IBA) said it has signed contracts with Belgium's University Hospitals Leuven and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven to install the country's first proton therapy center.

IBA will equip the center with its ProteusONE system, and the contract also includes a long-term maintenance agreement. Such packages are typically valued at between 35 million and 40 million euros, IBA said.

The project, in cooperation with Université Catholique de Louvain, Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc, and other Belgian universities, was awarded following a European public tender conducted by UZ Leuven, IBA said.

UZ Leuven said proton therapy is the most comprehensive cancer therapy available, and it looks forward to cooperating with IBA to provide excellent patient care.
