Women's imaging vendor Hologic has announced the commercial launch in Europe of 3DQuorum, a new tool for reconstructing digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) scans that's designed to improve workflow.

3DQuorum uses analytics to reconstruct high-resolution DBT into 6-mm SmartSlices that are designed to improve reading times for radiologists by reducing the number of images they have to review. Hologic noted that 3DQuorum can reduce reading times by two-thirds, without compromising image quality, sensitivity, or accuracy.

Hologic said it developed 3DQuorum to help radiologists deal with the workflow challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which prompted many women to postpone mammography screening. While DBT has become the gold standard for screening in Europe, the technology produces large file sizes, which can hinder a practice's efficiency.
