Computer-modeled throughput management cuts CT access time
Dutch researchers have used computerized modeling to reduce access time for CT scans, while carving out more time for urgent scans. Their study shows how more patients can be scheduled and examined by managing access to imaging equipment -- without additional capital outlays or staff.

Polish researchers offer new spin on coronary CT angiography
How accurate is coronary CT angiography (CCTA) compared to invasive quantitative coronary angiography (QCA)? Results for the two modalities correlate fairly well for most lesions, but for stenosis measurement, quantitative CTCA of the stenosis area correlates more closely with QCA compared to diameter stenosis measurement.

Mobile CT saves precious minutes in stroke care
German researchers have shaved more than a half hour off the normal time it takes to respond to urgent calls for stroke care by equipping an ambulance with a CT scanner and other communication equipment, which sends patients' vital information to the hospital before the patient arrives.

Evidence gathers behind new CT reconstruction method
An investigational raw-data-based iterative reconstruction scheme is getting high marks for image quality and dose reduction. Several research groups compared the reconstruction technique with standard filtered back-projection reconstructed images and found higher-quality images at around half the dose.

MR enterography compares favorably to endoscopy, histology
MR enterography is both sensitive and specific for the detection of Crohn's disease compared to both endoscopy and histology, and should be used in place of other methods in young patients when it's feasible to do so, according to a study in the European Journal of Radiology.

CT colonography delivers in laparoscopy planning
Italian researchers are adding a new indication for CT colonography after finding that it outperformed conventional colonoscopy for planning laparoscopic surgery in patients with colorectal cancer or complicated diverticular disease. They presented their results at the recent European Congress of Radiology.

CT complements MRI for heart transplant follow-up
MRI may be the gold standard for evaluation and follow-up of heart transplant patients, but multidetector CT can be well-suited to the conditions of the transplanted heart that evolve in the days and months following surgery.

Most asymptomatics show occult coronary disease at CCTA
A majority of low-risk asymptomatic patients aged in their 50s demonstrate occult coronary artery disease at coronary CT angiography (CCTA), though very few are at imminent risk of death, concluded Spanish researchers in a presentation this month at the European Congress of Radiology.

Unfilled vacancies and disparities persist in nuclear medicine
Nuclear medicine specialists have high career satisfaction, but unfilled vacancies and career disparities persist, finds a workforce survey by the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM).
Dual PET imaging in Case Two illustrates a patient with discordant disease. FDG PET (b & d) shows FDG uptake in tail of pancreas primary lesion (yellow arrow), as well as multiple hepatic metastases (yellow boxes), with enlarged liver span. DOTATATE PET on left (a) shows several hepatic metastases that do not demonstrate DOTATATE uptake above background of liver parenchyma. The liver lesions in (c) demonstrate moderate FDG uptake in liver lesions, with no corresponding DOTATATE avidity (white box) or central photopenia (white arrow). This discordance in dual PET imaging corresponds to a NETPET score of 5. This suggests de-differentiated disease and a less favorable prognosis. The patient was not suitable for Lutate treatment and received chemotherapy.
