Scientific publishing is moving fast and AI is setting the pace. Editors “have to change with it,” said Dr. Suhny Abbara, editor-in-chief of Radiology, the RSNA’s flagship journal.
AuntMinnieEurope met Abbara a month ago at the Editors’ Forum in Vienna, where editorial leaders from imaging journals worldwide gathered to compare experiences, confront shared challenges, and help shape the future of scientific publishing.
In a video interview, Abbara also reveals what makes a manuscript impossible to ignore. It starts with a meaningful question one whose answer could change how disease is understood or how patients are treated. Rigorous methods, transparency, reproducibility, and the ability to make complex ideas clear must follow.
That human element also emerged in AuntMinnieEurope’s recent video interview with Prof. Jaap Stoker, incoming editor-in-chief of European Radiology Experimental and another participant at the Editors’ Forum. AI may assist reviewers, Stoker said, but assessing scientific novelty remains fundamentally human.
