Shortening radiotherapy feasible for breast cancer

LONDON (Reuters), May 30 - Fewer but more concentrated doses of radiotherapy could be as safe and effective as a longer-course treatment for breast cancer patients, researchers said on Tuesday. A 10-year trial of a shorter course of 13 larger doses showed it worked just as well as the standard treatment and without an increase in side effects.

Digital mammo with CAD requires sharp eye for false negatives

In the past few years, traditional film-screen and digital mammography has benefited by the application of computer-aided detection (CAD) software. Although studies have shown that CAD use can increase the detection of early-stage malignancies, radiologist experience is needed to reduce the number of false negatives to a minimum, according to researchers from Italy.
