GE to supply FFDM to Irish breast cancer screening program

GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., said it has signed an agreement with the Irish National Cancer Screening Service to provide 13 of 29 digital mammography units to be installed across Ireland as part of that country's national breast cancer screening program, BreastCheck.

Of the 13 Senographe Essential full-field digital mammography (FFDM) units to be installed, six will be mobile units, according to GE. Ireland is one of the first European countries to convert entirely to digital mammography for breast cancer screening, a BreastCheck spokesperson said. Breast cancer accounts for 28% of all cancers in Ireland.
