Researchers from Germany and beyond are honing a set of advanced planning tools that not only provide high-resolution color-coded 3D visualization of the liver parenchyma and vasculature, but offer quantitative views of the intrahepatic vessel branching system and the risks of cutting at a given point in the organ.

Fecal test, sigmoidoscopy effective for colorectal cancer screening

NEW YORK (Reuters Health), Jul 12 - Both fecal occult blood testing and flexible sigmoidoscopy represent feasible and acceptable approaches to colorectal cancer screening in normal-risk men and women, Italian researchers conclude. The six-center study included more than 18,000 randomly selected patients between 55 and 64 years old who hadn't been screened for colorectal cancer in the past two years.

And unlike conventional colonoscopy, VC is in a position to make things easier for the patient. Studies are experimenting with gentler regimens that produce less discomfort and mark the residual stool. Recently, researchers tried to find the optimal formula for reduced-prep VC.
