Low-dose CT raises coronary calcium scores; IR corrects them
By
Eric Barnes
Low-dose coronary artery calcium (CAC) scores are reliable if iterative reconstruction (IR) is applied to the CT data, according to research presented at RSNA 2012. Dutch researchers found that the technology ensures the accuracy of CAC scores that would otherwise be higher and less predictable than the results of higher-dose CT scans.

New algorithm can boost CTA resolution in obese patients
By
Eric Barnes
A new reconstruction algorithm increases the accuracy and diagnostic performance of dual-source CT angiography (CTA) by raising the temporal resolution of images acquired at slow gantry rotation speeds, making it suitable for obese patients, a German-U.S. research project has found.

Dutch group works on producing clearer ultrasound images
By
Tami Freeman, PhD
Lipid-coated gas microbubbles injected into the blood can be used as an ultrasound contrast agent for diagnosis of cancers or cardiovascular disease. However, most existing contrast-enhanced ultrasound techniques suffer from artifacts due to nonlinear wave propagation through the contrast agent.
