Strike action looms in France over imaging spending plan

Members of the French union of private radiologists, the FNMR, have voted against the government plan to cut imaging spending by €300 million over the next two years and are planning strike action on 1 October.

In a vote held on 13 September, the FNMR rejected the report from the IGAS (general inspectorate of social affairs) and the IGS (general inspectorate of finance) report on radiology, saying it contains "numerous untruths". FNMR has recommended a strike by on-call public healthcare providers (PDSES), starting on 1 October, according to a statement released by the union on 17 September.

"These indiscriminate price cuts will hamper innovation, which is essential for proper patient care," FNMR said. "Radiology is a specialty central to diagnosis and treatment and is constantly evolving."

Other radiology groups are also opposing the IGAS/IGF report, including France’s Conseil National Professionnel (CNP) de radiologie et imagerie médicale (national professional council of radiology and medical imaging) -- also known as the G4.
