The region-wide, cloud-based PACS system will host x-rays, CT scans, ultrasound scans, MRI scans, and other diagnostic images for all trusts in the region. It features a vendor neutral archive, and all eight hospitals will be able to access and report on images captured at any facility in the region.
The images will also be available to clinicians through their electronic patient record system and in the regional digital care record. In addition, the PACS is scalable, providing the foundation needed to leverage emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, Sectra noted.
The new PACS is replacing an older system and is designed to support every person in the greater Manchester area, including 3.2 million people in the Greater Manchester Cancer Program. It is one of the largest imaging programs in the NHS, the company added.
The imaging vendor signed the contract with the NHS in October and expects the first PACS system to be deployed later this year. The solution can process up to 4 million examinations per year, Sectra said.
