IAEA signs deal to improve nuclear medicine training in Middle East

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has signed a three-year agreement with the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) to improve research and training in nuclear medicine in Lebanon and the Middle East.

The deal is the first to be signed between the IAEA and the university, and it covers four main areas:

  • Collaboration in professional training in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging in countries that are IAEA members
  • Collaboration in organizing meetings and workshops on clinical nuclear medicine and related research
  • Assistance in training and education
  • Exchange and dissemination of unclassified information of mutual interest

Working with the IAEA will help the American University of Beirut Medical Center bring high-quality medical education, research, and practice in the Middle East region, according to the parties. It will also increase training opportunities for nuclear medicine and molecular imaging professionals.
