Philips Healthcare parent company Royal Philips is partnering with NHS National Services Scotland to deal with the backlog of delayed breast cancer screenings due to the pandemic.

Philips' Vue PACS allows the Scottish Breast Cancer Screening Program's six centers and mobile screening units to interoperate with Scotland's PACS.

The interoperability between the two systems allows an individual patient's current and prior mammography images to be available to all NHS Scotland hospitals. This allows clinicians to compare new scans with prior studies -- even if they weren't performed in Scotland. Additionally, it allows the program's regional screening centers to support one another, for example, when staff shortages limit a center's ability to cope with the volume of images that need to be read.
