Shane Foley: Communication gap persists on patient shielding

VIENNA – There's still work to be done when it comes to getting the message across to patients about the pros and cons of shielding. That's the view of Shane Foley, PhD, who moderated a session on this topic at ECR 2024.

In a video interview, he explains the current thinking on shielding as well as optimization of CT dose. Foley, who is associate professor of radiography and associate dean at University College Dublin, also reflects on the participation of radiographers in ECR. Outside of radiology, he is an accomplished player of hurling, a team game that shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players, and much terminology.
