Dear Digital X-Ray Insider,

Everyone probably realizes the importance of minimizing exposure to scatter radiation, but teaching such a detailed and technical subject to radiology staff must be a very hard task.

A creative group from Finland has devised a modern approach to the topic, and it already seems to be paying off. To find out more, go to today’s top story.

In other news, we have a report from the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography annual meeting about researchers who have developed a deep-learning model that can predict coronary artery calcium scores from chest x-rays. Don’t miss our article.

Opportunistic use of chest x-rays obtained for other indications can be used to identify patients with signs of bone demineralization and at risk of osteoporosis in primary care settings, another research team has reported. Check out their study here.

Have you ever heard of digital variance angiography? It’s an emerging motion-based x-ray imaging technique that uses software to visualize the distribution of iodinated contrast medium (ICM) in the vascular system. The technique allows for lower doses of ICM and can be used during standard-of-care angiography examinations, German authors have explained.

Finally, in case you missed it last month, please also check a German initiative to upgrade x-ray systems in developing countries. In a Q&A interview, radiologist Dr. Amir H. Bigdeli has described his team’s impressive work in Tanzania.

These stories are just a small selection of the material we’ve posted over recent weeks in the Digital X-Ray content area. Please check out the full list here.
